Ensconced in the Verdant Provenance - piano

Ensconced in the Verdant Provenance is a short but difficult piece composed to mimic the sound and feel of "muscle memory." I sat at the piano and placed my hands on the keys, closed my eyes, and let my fingers go where they wanted without thinking about harmonies or rhythms. This "noodling" sound and feel was recreated in the notated music using overlapping and contrasting tuplets that move around the keyboard via small intervallic increments. The piece ends with rubato, out-of-time, improv-esque melodic gestures that float above a sustained pedal tone.
