Ripples 4

for percussion quartet

Written for the Sō Percussion Summer Institute in 2023, Ripples 4 represents the culmination of a year's worth of interest in acoustically recreating the sound of digital delay that started during my first SōSI in 2022. The work is based largely around a dotted eighth note delay. The first player performs relatively straightforward music, while the other players echo them at this set interval of time, creating a ripple across the ensemble. This delay effect is developed in different ways throughout the piece, occasionally broken up by unison groove sections.
