Silvery Reflections of the Moon in Passing Rivers
for solo marimba
Silvery Reflections of the Moon in Passing Rivers was directly inspired by a nighttime flight I took from San Diego back to Miami. Seated by the window (as I always prefer), I looked out into the darkness below, an almost complete blackness. But every now and then, brilliant flashes of light would appear on the ground, each one varying in shape and size. I soon realized these were rivers and bodies of water winding across the landscape, catching the light of the full moon above. The moon’s reflection, perfectly aligned with my vantage point in the plane, would shimmer and vanish as we flew past. It was a quiet, fleeting beauty that stayed with me and ultimately inspired this simple piece.
